But less than three decades ago, the school was surrounded by hayfields and cornfields. A gift of land and the vision of a dedicated volunteer led to the establishment of the arboretum, school officials said.<\/p>\n<p>The arboretum was recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/loudouns-hill-school-arboretum-included-in-archives-of-american-gardens\/2017\/05\/05\/d461b2a4-318f-11e7-9dec-764dc781686f_story.html?utm_term=.0ce20294b0d0&amp;wpisrc=nl_va&amp;wpmm=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">selected by the Smithsonian Institution and the Garden Club of America<\/a> for inclusion in the Archives of American Gardens.
